Pina Colada frozen treats - Eng

The piña colada is a very sweet summer cocktail made with light rum, coconut milk and pineapple juice! I can say that it is one of my favorite cocktails, so I asked myself: why not make it a dog friendly version? So do not worry, in this case alcohol is not included!

I have already told you about coconut several times, for this reason in this recipe I will focus on the other key ingredient, pineapple. Pineapple is sweet, with a sour note and is one of the most popular tropical fruits. It helps digestion, in fact it contains bromelain, an enzyme that facilitates the breakdown, and therefore the absorption, of proteins, allowing dogs to better absorb nutrients from food. In addition, it is rich in minerals, vitamins, fructose and fiber and strengthens the body's immune system. In addition to vitamins B1 and B6 and thiamine, which produces energy, it contains folic acid and pantothenic acid. The minerals magnesium and manganese are also present in pineapples. Manganese helps strengthen bones.

But be careful here I am talking about fresh pineapple and not canned one. The latter contains very high amounts of sugar and fewer nutrients. Only from fresh pineapple can they reap a greater amount of benefits. And pay attention to the doses, even the fresh one is not low in sugar, so better not to overdo it!

TIME: 10 minutes for the recipe and about 3/4 in the freezer

INGREDIENTS (about 10 frozen treats)

15 ml (1 tsp) - coconut oil

100 ml (1/3 cup and 1 tsp*) - coconut milk

80 gr (1/3 cup*) - fresh pineapple

*you can add a little more

METHOD

  1. First add coconut oil (already dissolved) and coconut milk to the blender.

  2. Then remove the peel and the central part of the pineapple (harder than the rest of the pulp, it is the piece I discard in the video).

  3. Cut the pineapple into small pieces and add them to the blender.

  4. Blend well for about a minute.

  5. Finally, pour the mixture into the molds and freeze for at least 3/4 hours.

STORAGE

Frozen treats keep well for a few months in the freezer, but we know they won't last more than a few weeks;)

Here is a short video with all the steps:
